Do you think language unites or divides us ?

I think in my opinion, that language divides us because I never heard that language united a country or people. I'm from a country where people speak the same language, they have the same believe system, and they all look alike. However, they are more far divided than united. I lost faith in language; because people always say when you have the same language it resolves all the problems you as people of same culture and tradition created.

As I have seen in Somalia, our language only divided us instead of uniting us. As long as I have lived, my whole life there was a civil war that has been going on. But the language was not for one second used as a weapon to stop the war; instead it only spread lies and hatred. Some people in America might say that in America language is the symbol of their unionization. I do not see any point or prove that language unites us, because even when America was being created by people from all around Europe desipite the differences they created stable government according to their will.

If you take a vacation to Mexico and you don't understand the language you get confused. But when you see someone who speaks the same language as you do, you feel better instantly. Language makes easier for us to understand others but it does not stop conflict. Some might argue that language makes us understand each other and unites us. However, in my opinion language only divided us. I still keep my language and I value because its part of my values, culture, and it defines who Iam as person. It’s not that everyone would agree with me but that is my point and I believe it takes more than a language to unite.
